2025 Indiana University School of Medicine MSTP Undergraduate Research Program Application

Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident of the United States (i.e., possess a valid Permanent Resident Card USCIS Form I-551 aka Green Card). Please confirm.

Have you conducted research independently or as part of a team, beyond the requirements of your lab classes?

Please share your preferred area(s) of research. This will help the directors identify potential research and clinical mentors for the summer experience.
You may add additional area(s) of research or clinical interest if they were not mentioned above. 

*Please note that we will do our best to match your area of research interest with summer mentors, but we cannot guarantee an exact match. 

A Letter of Recommendation (LOR) is REQUIRED. 

Recommender Qualifications:

• Preferred: A faculty member with whom you've collaborated in a laboratory setting and who has observed your work. They can assess your laboratory and research skills.
• Alternative: If you lack prior research experience, a faculty member who can speak to your academic potential and interest in research is acceptable.
• The LOR must be on official letterhead.

• Email: Have your recommender EMAIL your LOR directly to INmstp@iu.edu with the subject line: "MSTP USRP LOR - with your last name."
• Alternatively, you can UPLOAD a LOR directly through this application portal before you submit it. We'll thank your recommender for sending it.

A strong LOR can significantly enhance your application. Choose a recommender who can speak positively to your abilities and potential for success in research.
