The Indiana Medical student Program for Research and Scholarship (IMPRS) facilitates IU School of Medicine medical student participation in various medical research and scholarship opportunities including translational and laboratory research, clinical research, health research outcomes research, and community health education research. The goal is to make a wide variety of research and clinical opportunities available to students to enhance intellectual inquisitiveness, foster an environment of scholarly endeavors, and support excellence in the development of physicians, physician-scientists, educators, and investigators.
The IMPRS 10-12-week summer research program (SRP) is supported by a collection of sponsorships consisting of the IUSM Dean's Office, the Indiana Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI), various IUSM Departments/Divisions, Research Endowments, and several NIH training grants (only NIH trainees receive 12 weeks of funding support).
Deadline for application submission: January 15, 2025, at 11:59pm EST. At this time, the RedCap system will close.
Notifications of acceptance to the program will be sent via email in the month of March 2025. The deadline for a student's acceptance will be April 1st, 2025. The IMPRS SRP will begin on May 22, 2025.
IMPRS Program Requirements:
Must be enrolled as IUSM MS1 student with the exception of the SPARC Program.
SPARC is accepting applicants from medical students attending external medical schools.
Must be in good standing at the time of applying and starting the summer research. Status will be confirmed with medical school Administration.
Must participate for the whole duration of the assigned program.
Must complete all assignments and surveys on Canvas for IMPRS.
Must attend the IMPRS orientation and weekly seminars.
Complete the Individual Development Plan (IDP).
Must meet with mentor weekly.
Must participate in the IMPRS Research Symposium at the end of the summer.
Must agree to the 3 day vacation policy (not including paid holidays).
Must agree to participate only in IMPRS; cannot participate in another summer program.
Must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the US.
