The Indiana Medical Student Program for Research and Scholarship (IMPRS) facilitates IU School of Medicine medical student participation in various medical research and scholarship opportunities including translational and laboratory, clinical, health research outcomes and community health education. The goal is to make a wide variety of research and clinical opportunities available to students to enhance intellectual inquisitiveness, foster an environment of scholarly endeavors, and support excellence in the development of physicians, physician-scientists, educators and investigators. The program is supported by a collection of sponsorships consisting of the IUSM Dean's Office, Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and several NIH training grants.

Please remember, the experience is 10-12 weeks long. You are required to attend the eight weekly Thursday seminars. All IMPRS participants will participate in the IMPRS Poster Presentation on July 28 or 29, 2021 to compete for a spot to give an oral presentation on August 3, 2021.

Deadline for application submission: Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11:59pm EST. At this time, the RedCap system will close.

Notifications of acceptance to program will be sent via email by March 8, 2021. Deadline for student's acceptance will be March 22, 2021.

IMPRS Program Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as IUSM MS1 student.
  • Must be in good standing at time of starting the summer research.
  • Must participate for the duration of the assigned program.
  • Must complete all assignments and surveys on Canvas.
  • Must attend the orientation and weekly seminars.
  • Must participate in the IMPRS Poster Presentation.
  • Must agree to the 3 days vacation policy (not including paid holidays).
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident to the US.
